MANAGING YOUR THOUGHTS - a series
Proverbs 4:23
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it
are the issues of life.
The
chapter past was important, it’s the foundation of the subject in this book.
It’s necessary you take care of chapter one else the rest of the chapters might
not profit you. Nevertheless, I still encourage you to read on, may be some
light may come to your heart and then you can profit. There are five senses.
Among them are the sense of hearing and seeing. The ears and eyes are the major
gateway to the mind. Every matter that borders around the human mind finds their
way majorly by the sense of seeing and hearing.
How the human minds works is really amazing – your mind. Your
mind is a portion of your soul majorly. Your body needs food for survival, your
spirit needs the word of God, and your mind (soul) needs thought. Your mind
can’t be blank. Yes, not even when you’re sleeping. In essence my friends, you
can’t stop your mind from having thoughts. You can only decide what kind of
thought your mind should be fed with. Having come this far, let’s see how the
mind gets it thought. But remember just as the body needs the right food to
grow your mind needs the right thoughts. Let’s see how the mind get it thought
from this story.
Gen 3:1-6
Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of
the field which the Lord God had
made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every
tree of the garden?
2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We
may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
3 But of the fruit of the tree which is
in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither
shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye
shall not surely die:
5 For God doth know that in the day ye
eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing
good and evil.
6 And when the woman saw that the tree
was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be
desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave
also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
The story is a
conversation between the serpent and the woman. The serpent had engaged the
woman in a conversation in other to change her believe. Before the both parties
met, the woman had her mind fix on the fact that this particular tree was not good
for her consumption. Then the serpent came and began to feed her mind with some
kind of thoughts and her sense of hearing was the gateway to receiving it
(thought). From verse 4, and 5 the woman had been listening and receiving the
thoughts the serpent was passing to her. And in the process she was also
meditating on them. How did we know, the outcome in verse 6 shows us?
6And when the woman saw that the tree was good for
food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make
one wise…
Let me ask you.
For some time now the woman had been in the garden, do you think she hasn’t
been seeing the fruit of the tree in the midst of the garden? Certainly no.
just that she hasn’t seen it the way she saw it now. And to add, this was not
the only tree that was pleasant to the eyes. Check it below.
9 And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight,
and good for food…
Gen 2:9
Observe Genesis chapter 2 verse 9. Pay
attention to chapter 3 verse 6 and chapter 2 verse 9, you’d notice that the
woman began to see how pleasant this tree was and that it was good for food.
Recall… lust of the eyes... Lust has set in. Notice how chapter 2 verse 6
starts. And when… meaning there was a
time before the when and what do you think was her view then.
Did you know
two person can be seeing the same thing but have different meaning to it. Well
some may say perspective – what is behind the perspective?
We could be
going on and on citing other similar examples but they will all point to
similar conclusion which is our input determines our thought and consequently
our output.
Input [mind process thoughts] output
So how does the mind gets it thoughts? The answer is from the external:
through what we see and hear majorly.
Just as your
body needs the right food to grow, your mind needs the right kind of thoughts
to be productive
